Michael J. Prout was first elected to the Board of Directors of the U.S. Marshals Survivors Benefit Fund (USMSBF) in April 2018. He was the founder of the annual Marshals Golf Classic and served as the event Chairman for the first five years of that very successful activity that has helped to raise over $1 million for the Fund. In 2019, he was named Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors. From 2017 to the present, he also serves as Chairman of the Executive Advisory Committee making recommendations to the Board on corporate fundraising.
Originally from New Jersey, Mr. Prout graduated from Marist College, Poughkeepsie, NY, with a Bachelor of Science degree. Later, he attended Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, where he received a Master of Science degree.
His Federal law enforcement career began in 1992 when he was appointed a Deputy U.S. Marshal in the District of New Jersey. After reassignment to Headquarters, Arlington, VA, he served as an Inspector in the Witness Security Division and then promoted to Senior Inspector, Judicial Security Division. In 2000, he was promoted to Chief Inspector and supervised various headquarters branches. During this period, he also was selected to serve as the Acting Assistant Director of Interpol- United States National Central Bureau, Department of Justice. In 2005, he transferred to Chicago, IL, and was promoted to the position of Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal, Northern District of Illinois.
Mr. Prout returned to USMS headquarters and was appointed to the newly created position of Deputy Assistant Director of the Judicial Security Division. In 2008, he was selected for the Senior Executive Service (SES) and appointed Assistant Director for Judicial Security. He also served as Assistant Director of the Office of Professional Responsibility and later as Assistant Director for Witness Security from which he retired in 2017. He received personal awards from both the Director of the U.S. Marshals Service and the Attorney General of the United States for his outstanding performance and leadership throughout his distinguished career.
At the conclusion of his Federal law enforcement career, Mike Prout was recruited to be the Director of Corporate Security for Charter Communications, Denver, CO, from 2017 to 2019. In 2019, he relocated to Boston, MA, and now holds the position of Vice President for Global Security for Crane Currency.
Michael Prout was a Founding Member and a current Director on the Board of Directors of the Public Safety Cadets, a national non-profit organization founded and managed by active and retired law enforcement officers and business leaders dedicated to preparing young adults, ages 14-20 for careers and leadership in the public safety profession.
