John O. Bolen was first appointed of the Board in June 2012 and served four years as the Director/Treasurer and then was elected Chairman of the Board. USMS policy required that he resign when he was promoted to the Senior Executive Service Assistant Director in August 2016. He continued to serve the foundation for four years as Chairman of the Annual Marshals Golf Classic. In October 2020, he was re-elected to the Board of Directors as a Director.
John Bolen who is originally from Columbus, OH, is currently the Vice President of Operations for the North American Operations Division at Constellis. His portfolio is now the largest in this multi-billion-dollar company consisting of 9,000 employees dedicated to the planning, direction, and successful execution of 100 complex risk management and mitigation service contracts. Revenues are approaching $1B annually. His clients include federal, state and local government departments and agencies, and private commercial organizations from a variety of sectors.
Prior to his retirement as a Senior Executive Service (SES) Assistant Director of the U.S. Marshals Service, he had a 23-year career with the Department of Justice where he garnered many national awards and recognition for his performance. He held assignments in the field serving in DC Superior Court, Eastern Kentucky, Western Kentucky, Southern Ohio, and Eastern Virginia. He also completed assignments at headquarters as Chief Inspector in the Judicial Security and Prisoner Operations divisions. After selection for the SES, he became the Assistant Director for Judicial Security and the Senior Intelligence Coordinator and finally the Office of Professional Responsibility where he served as the Chief Compliance Officer and Director of Internal Affairs.
Commander John Bolen is a decorated Intelligence Officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve. He has 28 years of distinguished active and reserve service, including six years at the Naval Special Warfare Development Group located in Virginia Beach, VA. He currently serves as a staff officer and mentor at the Naval Information Forces Reserve Region Washington, DC located at Joint Base Andrews, MD. He completed a very successful tour as the Commanding Officer at the Joint Intelligence Operations Center at the U.S. Southern Command in Miami, FL. Other assignments included Executive Officer, Naval Meteorological and Oceanography Reserve Activity at the U.S. Naval Observatory in Washington, DC, and Director, Naval Intelligence Training Center, DIA, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, DC.
He holds a Master of Public Administration from Troy University, and graduated Magna Cum Laude and member of Delta Epsilon Sigma College National Honor Society with a bachelor’s degree in Criminology from Saint Leo University. Additionally, he is a graduate of the U.S. Naval War College and the National Security Executive Leadership Seminar at the U.S Department of State Foreign Service Institute.
